BugI don't see any red indicators on fmhy.net

Work through these in order — one of them fixes it nearly every time:

  1. Confirm you're on a wiki article page such as fmhy.net/ai or fmhy.net/video. The homepage has no resource lists, so there is nothing to mark.
  2. Reload the tab once after installing. Content scripts don't retroactively enter tabs that were already open.
  3. Open the extension's Settings and check that Show indicators is enabled.
  4. On Firefox below 127, site access isn't granted automatically. Go to about:addons → FMHY Similar → Permissions and allow access to fmhy.net. (This add-on requires 140+, so you shouldn't hit this.)

Still nothing? File a bug below with your Firefox version and the exact page URL.

How toHow do I find similar resources?

Double-click any resource that has a red marker beside it. A small card opens on the page with up to five alternatives. It never opens a new tab.

Two other ways in:

  • Keyboard: Tab to the marker and press Enter.
  • Touch / narrow screens: a tappable button replaces the double-click automatically.

Inside the card: arrow keys move between suggestions, Escape or an outside click closes it, and focus stays trapped in the card while open.

AnswerIt says "No strong alternatives found." Is that a bug?

No — that's deliberate. Suggestions are scored against category, tags, keywords, description, features and platform, and anything below the quality threshold is dropped rather than shown.

The add-on will show four, two or zero results instead of padding the list to five with junk. Very niche or one-of-a-kind tools genuinely have no close neighbour. If you see it on something obviously common (a mainstream torrent client, say), that is worth reporting.

BugDouble-click selects text or does nothing

Double-click has to land on the resource row — the marker, the resource name, or the space right around them. Landing on plain descriptive paragraph text triggers the browser's own text selection instead.

If Double-click to find similar is switched off in Settings, the gesture is disabled by design; use Enter on the focused marker.

Some password managers and userscripts swallow double-clicks. If you run one, try a clean window to confirm before reporting.

AnswerWhere are my favourites stored? Do they sync?

Favourites and settings live in storage.sync. If you're signed into a Firefox Account with add-on data syncing on, they follow you between devices. Without an account they simply stay local — nothing is lost, it just won't roam.

They are never sent to us or to any server. There is no account system and no backup on our end, so a browser profile wipe removes them permanently.

How toHow do I update the resource database?

Settings → Database → Update Resource Database. That panel also shows the current version, last-updated date and total resource count.

The add-on ships with a full catalogue of 20,601 resources already bundled, so it's complete from the moment you install it. Updating is optional and only worth doing occasionally, when FMHY has added new entries.

Automatic daily refresh exists but is off by default and must be opted into.

BugThe database update failed or was rejected

Updates are validated before they're allowed to replace what you have. A download is rejected if it's malformed, less than 50% valid entries, or more than 50% smaller than your installed copy.

That's a safety feature: a truncated or corrupted download can never overwrite a working database. Your existing data stays intact and the add-on keeps working.

Usually it's a transient network problem — wait and retry. If it fails repeatedly over a few days, report it with the error text shown in the Database panel.

PrivacyWhat data does this collect?

None. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, no error reporting, no remote code. Favourites, settings, recently viewed items and the database never leave your browser.

The extension makes no network request during normal use — browsing, searching, favouriting and viewing similar resources are all served locally. The only time it reaches the network is when you personally press Update Resource Database, and then only to FMHY's own public sources.

You can verify this: go fully offline and everything except that one button keeps working.

AnswerWhy does it need permissions, and why is the file so large?

Four permissions, nothing more: storage (favourites, settings, database), alarms (the opt-in, default-off refresh only), and host access to fmhy.net plus raw.githubusercontent.com/fmhy for user-triggered updates. No tabs, no cookies, no browsing history, no access to any other site.

The ~932 KB download is almost entirely the bundled resource catalogue — data, not code. Shipping it prebuilt is what makes the add-on work instantly and completely offline.

AnswerIs this official? Which browsers work? Can I use Chrome?

This is an unofficial community add-on. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or maintained by the FMHY project. All resource data comes from FMHY's publicly published wiki.

Requires Firefox 140+ on desktop and 142+ on Android — those are the first releases supporting the data-consent declaration the add-on ships with. A Chromium build (Chrome, Edge, Brave) exists from the same codebase and can be loaded unpacked via chrome://extensions → Developer mode → Load unpacked.
